So my cell phone provider just texted me that I must - MUST - turn on the always-on geolocation protection locate-my-lost-device thingie in order for my loss recovery insurance to remain valid. 15 min. later I cancelled my insurance.
Of course, if only 5% of the customers of their insurance do this, then the additional telemetry/use/behavior data will make more money for the provider than we 5% will cost them. I'll look around at other sources of such insurance. Small item or renters' insurance is sold all over the place; an equivalent for electronic devices has to be common. I'll research that and report back later. I just wanted to act quickly so as to make a point to whomever is watching cancellations at the company.
